As the Halloween month kicks off, one local lingerie shop asks, “Are you haunted by a drawer full of dead bras?”a la mode exterior

This month, locally owned á la mode intimates in the Annapolis Towne Centre, is offering $5 off the purchase of a new bra when you turn in a ‘dead’ bra. Any usable bra will be cleaned and donated to charity, while unusable bras will be sent to a recycling facility.

“Women are reluctant to get rid of their old bras, always putting off bra shopping until catastrophe strikes,” said Rebecca Ulrich-Dodson, a certified bra fit specialist at á la mode, “so we wanted to give them a good reason to give up those un-supportive old bras.”

How can you tell if your bra is dead? Some key clues: it has missing or broken pieces; has been in the clothes dryer; has a stretched band; or requires continuous strap adjustment.

The Dead Bra event continues throughout October, highlighted by a special Ladies’ Night Dead Bra Decorating contest at á la mode on Thursday, October 15. That evening from 5-7 pm, women are invited to á la mode (1910 Towne Centre Blvd., Annapolis) for wine and light appetizers. The staff at á la mode will display Halloween-themed decorated dead bras they have created and guests will vote on their favorite entry. With your vote, you will also be entered in a free raffle to win a Halloween treat basket.

Locally-owned á la mode intimates has been in the Annapolis community since 2003. They specialize in professional bra fittings and carry a range of sizes not typically found in lingerie retailers. Sizes range from 28 to 44 in band width and AA to K in cup size. For more information, see www.alamodeintimates.com
