The Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB) wants to make it easy for individuals to enjoy the many exciting events and activities that will be taking place in Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay throughout November 2015. First Sunday Arts Festival

Historic Annapolis uses famous children’s stories to help preschoolers explore the 18th-century house and garden of William Paca. The book, Iggy Peck Architect, will not only make grownups laugh, it will make youngsters want to experiment with construction. Bit by bit, block by block, the day will be built into a larger than life project in this session that focuses on young architects.

Chefs from local restaurants and catering companies will provide tastings of their specialties during this blue tie event to benefit the Light House. Evening includes a wide selection of silent and live auction items and jazz music by the Rob Levit Trio. All proceeds will benefit the homeless prevention support center in Annapolis. Attendees are encouraged to show their support by wearing blue. Anything blue will do: blue jeans, blue ball gowns, blue tuxedos or blue suede shoes.

Maritime Republic of Eastport’s Tug o’ War

Drawing on a decades-old rivalry, the annual charitable event features the longest tug-of-war over a body of water in the world, pitting downtown Annapolitans against the rebels of the mock-breakaway Maritime Republic of Eastport. Dubbed the Slaughter across the Water, it features a 1700-foot rope, 450 tuggers and 1000 spectators. A festival-like atmosphere overtakes downtown Eastport and Annapolis beginning at 11:00 a.m. Tugging begins promptly (more or less) at the crack o’ noon.

Across the Bay 10K

Some 20,000 runners from across the country and around the world are expected to compete in the 6.2-mile race that includes a 4.3-mile trek across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The race should be an exhilarating experience for runners who will see water vistas dotted by sailboats from atop the major dual-span bridge that normally does not allow pedestrian traffic. The bridge reaches 186 feet at its highest point. The event will benefit several charity partners.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra program explores friendly relationships between composers Henri Busser and Claude Debussy as well as Johannes Brahms and Antonin Dvorak. Selections include Debussy/Busser’s Petite Suite, Dvorak’s Concerto for Violin in A Minor and Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 in F Major. Concertmaster violinist Netanel Draiblate will be making his debut as a concerto soloist with the ASO.

The book, How Did That Get in My Lunchbox?: The Story of Food, takes a look at how the food we eat today was made. A fieldtrip to the historic kitchen garden and Paca House kitchen will help youngsters understand where food comes from.

Grand Illumination – City Tree Lighting

Market Space at the Market House, 25 Market Street, Annapolis

With support from the Annapolis business community, the Annapolis Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) will once again host the Lighting of the Tree in Annapolis during the city’s Grand Illumination event. Watch Santa arrive in town and enjoy singing and dance performances by area youth. The Jaycees will provide refreshments and ornaments children can use to decorate the tree. Attendees are invited to bring nonperishable food items and new, unwrapped toys for the Jaycees’ annual Angel Tree Project.
