New prescription drug drop off box at Annapolis Police Department

prescription-drugsThe Anne Arundel County Department of Health, in conjunction with the Annapolis Police Department, has placed a Prescription Drug Drop Off Box for public use at the Annapolis Police Department, 199 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland 21401. The Prescription Drug Drop Off Box, which was funded through the Department of Health’s Opioid Misuse Prevention Program, is the City of Annapolis’ first permanent drug deposit box. The general public can discard expired, unwanted and unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.

“This initiative focuses on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from the nation’s medicine cabinets,” said Annapolis Police Chief Michael Pristoop. “We appreciate the public’s help in reducing the amount of prescription drug misuse in our area.”

The program is anonymous and no requests for identification will be made. Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and dropping it in the box. If an original container is submitted, the individual is encouraged to remove identifying information from the prescription label. All solid dosage pharmaceutical products may be accepted. Liquid products, intravenous solutions, needles and syringes will not be accepted. Illicit substances are not part of the initiative and should not be dropped in the box.
