LIVE BLOG: Navy Vs Air Force, October 3, 2015

airforce1013There is a lot riding n today’s game as the Navy Midshipmen take on the Air Force Falcons in their quest to bring the Commander In Chief’s Trophy back to Annapolis. The team that beats the two other service academies, retains the trophy, bragging rights, and gets a visit to the White House. While Army has not proven to be a challenge to the Midshipmen, the Falcons are another story. Currently they are 2-1 this year; while the Mids are 3-0. And in the series, Air Force leads 28-19.

The games are typically tight scoring and while the Falcons coach Troy Calhoun has a more winning record, Navy’s Niumatalolo has beaten them 4 out of the last 7 match-ups. Will the rainy, wet field play a part? Who knows.  One Navy fan thinks so.

The game is sold out and kick off is scheduled for 3:30pm.  There will be two flyovers today, one at the conclusion of the National Anthem and another as Navy takes the field.  In between the first and second quarters the 1960 Orange Bowl team will be honored. The 1960 team went 9-2 that included wins over Boston College, Washington, SMU, Air Force, Notre Dame, Virginia and Army. The Mids went on to play in the Orange Bowl where they lost to Missouri, 21-14. The star of the 1960 team was Heisman Trophy winner Joe Bellino. Bellino will be in attendance on Saturday as will another College Football Hall of Fame inductee, head coach Wayne Hardin.
