Dublin 5 set to release latest album on Friday at Union Jack’s

Dublin_5Dublin 5, the area’s premier Irish rock band has been busy creating a self-titled CD that will be released this Friday at Union Jack’s in Annapolis.

The 11 song CD highlights how the band has evolved. For sure there are traditional Celtic melodies and fiddle solos, but in a departure from previous releases, there is a great mix of love ballads, get-up-and-dance songs, and even a twinge of country. All in all, the CD does not disappoint. We received an advance copy without any artwork (or titles) and the two songs that stood out for me are the 6th track (written by non-Dublin 5 member, Tom Bowman–So here we are?) and the 11th track (Sweet 16?).

Friday will be the first chance to hear the new music at Union Jack’s and one of a few to see them before spring.  They are playing at the Maryland Irish Festival on November 6th and 7th, the Annapolis Oyster Classic on November 21 and a sold out show at Rams Head On Stage in December.

On Friday, all new songs will be played along with a mix of your old favorites.

It has been a while since the band recorded a CD and this CD marks the debut of relatively new bass player, Gary Hewitt who joined the band late last year; and Kevin Shook who came on board as the drummer 4 or 5 years ago! They plan to play this spring to support the new CD, and are consistently recording new material to include in a future release.

Dublin 5 is, and always has been high energy and a lot of fun and Friday will be no exception. Dublin 5 is fronted by Ray Murphy (lead guitar) and backed by Jenn Belle (fiddle), Gary Hewitt (bass), Jim Martin, (percussion), and drummer Kevin Shook. They are sure to keep you on edge until the final encore has been played!
