City Hall art exhibit through October

clendeningAnnapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides invites the public to visit City Hall to see a new art exhibit featuring the work of John Clendening.

John Clendening is a nationally recognized artist exhibiting work on both the East and West Coasts.  John has been honored for his work by the Oil Painters of America, the U.S. State Department’s Art in Embassy program, the Salmagundi Arts Club as well as art museums and art leagues across the country.

Mr. Clendening received his professional training in drawing, painting and sculpture at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. followed by a successful career at the Smithsonian Institution.  As Chief of Design for the Air and Space Museum, John was awarded for his exhibit designs. 

Mr. Clendening has been commissioned to paint representational pieces for both private and public collections including Villanova University, Dirickson Securities and Aerospace Industries Association.  Most recently, NASA commissioned and published his art in “NASA and the Exploration of Space”.  John’s artwork from his experience as a Combat Artist with the U.S. Marine Corp in South Vietnam is on permanent display at the Pentagon while more recent paintings are exhibited at the Kennedy Visitor Center, the Marine Museum, and the Air and Space Museum.  Other work is on exhibit at the Columbia Museum of Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art and the South Carolina State Museum.  

His work will be featured in City Hall, located at 160 Duke of Gloucester Street in Annapolis, through November 1 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

John lives in Annapolis where he maintains a studio.
