Department of Aging offers Senior Citizen Plus program to eligible seniors

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is offering interested individuals an opportunity to join the Senior Center Plus Program.  Senior Center Plus is a structured, supervised day program for older adults who may not be able to navigate a senior activity center independently.  This program offers a level of care between Independent Participation and Adult Day Care.  It is Senior Photo (8)offered in designated senior activity centers throughout Anne Arundel County.  Participants are supervised by two Certified Nursing Assistants and coordinated by a Registered Nurse.

The program offers daily structured activities in a safe, supervised environment while addressing the functional, emotional and social needs of the qualified seniors who participate.  Participants enjoy the benefit from a variety of activities such as chair exercises, arts and crafts, games, social outings and entertainment, while the caregiver can enjoy a few hours of respite.  Lunch and transportation are provided at no cost; however, donations for these services are accepted. 

Eligibility requirements include:

·         You must be a current resident of Anne Arundel County.

·         You must be at least 55 years old.

·         You must be able to independently use the restroom.

·         You must be able to independently feed yourself.

·         You must be able to communicate needs to staff.

All potential participants receive a free evaluation from a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Social Worker from the Department of Aging and Disabilities to determine qualification for this program.  Eligibility for a variety of other programs offered by the department could be found in this evaluation.  The fee for Senior Center Plus is $40 per day.
