NSA, Ft. Meade, County Schools effectively closed by police pursuit

CarjackingFort Meade, the NSA, and all public schools near the Army base have been closed today to all but mission critical personnel. Residents in the area have ben warned to remain in their homes and report suspicious activity. With very few details, we know that Anne Arundel County Police were in pursuit of a stolen/carjacked vehicle last night shortly before 9pm. The car turned into a closed, unmanned entrance to Ft. Meade and crashed through a fence. The driver fled and authorities have been looking for him ever since. Maryland State Police and Anne Arundel County helicopters have been searching for nearly 12 hours without success.  Traffic in the area has been severely impacted.  Police have not released a description of the suspect, the vehicle (which was quickly removed from the scene), nor why the extreme measures were being used. As more information is available, we will update this story.

In a release from the police department this morning:

On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers from Anne Arundel County Police were in the Hanover area when they observed a vehicle that was reported stolen in a robbery or carjacking in Baltimore City. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver led officers on a short (approximately 4.5 miles) pursuit. In the area of Rockenbach Road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a fence leading into Ft. Meade property. The driver then jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. At this time it is believed that the driver may still be in the area on Ft. Meade property. Ft. Meade Police has assumed responsibility as the primary jurisdiction since the driver is still believed to be on their property. Officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department are assisting Ft. Meade Police with canine and air support attempting to locate the driver.
