It was an opening quarter, in the first game of the season, in a new conference, and nearly 30,000 people in the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium were questioning how good of a team the Navy would field this year. But those fears were allayed fairly quickly.
Colgate was the first to score with a field goal and Navy answered. But by the end of the first quarter, the Navy engines had started and it was full steam ahead ending the quarter with a touchdown. From there, Navy’s defense would dominate Colgate’s anemic offense keeping the Raiders out of the end zone until late in the 4th quarter when they scored their first and only touchdown of the game.
In the end, the Navy Midshipmen came out ahead 48-10 in their American Athletic Conference debut.
