Jug Bay Wetlands to celebrate 30th year this weekend

30th Anniversary flyerOn Saturday, October 3, 2015, Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary will mark its 30-year anniversary with a free public celebration and concert from noon to 6 pm at Glendening Preserve, 5702 Plummer Lane, Lothian, MD 20711. All ages are welcome.

Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary is the largest of many parks operated by Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks. It contains 1,700 acres of tidal freshwater marshes, forested wetlands, upland and riparian forest, creeks, meadows, pine and sand barrens, and fields. The Sanctuary’s mission incorporates education, research, and stewardship, and it supports all three components with a strong and talented volunteer base.

Jug Bay’s 30th anniversary celebration will feature a climbing wall, hayrides, live animals, touch-a-truck, kids’ zone, food and other local vendors, and gift bag give-aways. Visitors will enjoy live music throughout the day from the Jug Bay Jug Band, Bridgette Michaels, Rockfish, and The Back Pages.

Past Sanctuary director Chris Swarth will also lead a planting of 30 milkweed plants in the meadow at Glendening Preserve. The 30 milkweeds will both commemorate Jug Bay’s first 30 years and symbolize the commitment to conserving a thriving natural Sanctuary for Anne Arundel County.
