Fringe Festival brings much needed vibe to Annapolis

Saturday night was magical. The only car in sight was being spray painted by kids. People were roaming the streets with cocktails in hand. A woman was shaking her nearly-naked boobs in the parking lot of Stan and Joe’s Saloon. The Anne Arundel Medical Center had their giant inflatable colon occupying the alleyway between El Toro Bravo and Gotts Court Garage. Men in dresses and high heels unabashedly raced up and down the street. The Eastport Oyster Boys sauntered. Human hamster raced. Fast As Lightning jammed. And Donald Trump hung lifelessly over West Street until someone whacked him in the ass with a stick.

Yes, Fringe Fest was here! And it was fantastic. While ostensibly presented by the Inner West Street Association, most of the legwork was accomplished by Katherine Burke, proprietor of The Annapolis Collection Gallery which served as “Fringe Central” for the evening!

So, what is a Fringe Festival.  It’s mystical. It’s strange. It’s bizarre. It makes you think. It makes you laugh. It makes you smile. It’s colorful. It makes you uncomfortable. It is alternate art and for 6 hours on Saturday night, it showed the world what Annapolis could be. And we hope it continues for years to come!
