BaysoxThe resurgent Erie SeaWolves continued a strong finish to a disappointing season as they swept a doubleheader from Bowie Saturday night. The Baysox fell in the opener 3-2 before dropping the nightcap 4-1.

After the sweep, Erie is now 23-12 since the beginning of August when they were at a low-mark of 25 games below .500.

In the opener Bowie had a run in and runners at the corners with just one out in the first inning before a double play ball ended the rally. Erie starter Josh Turley allowed just two more hits for the duration of the game.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the third inning, Baysox starter Chris Lee danced out of a jam in each of the next two frames. In the fifth, with the bases loaded and no outs, he got a strikeout and a groundout force play at the plate for the second out. Then Jacoby Jones hit a comebacker off of the side of Lee for an infield single that made it 2-1 Erie. An inning later, Drew Longley singled home an insurance run.

Quincy Latimore got the Baysox within one with a long home run to left-center in the seventh inning. It was his 19th of the season, tying a career high from his 2010 season in Advanced-A Bradenton. The Baysox could muster no more in the 3-2 loss.

In game two, the Baysox tied the game at 1-apiece in the third inning on a chopper through the right side of the infield by Trey Mancini. Mancini was 3-for-3 in the nightcap and had four hits in the doubleheader.

Tied in the fourth inning, starter Marcel Prado departed with two on and two down. Ashur Tolliver entered and his first pitch was lined for a two-RBI double by James Robbins to left field and Erie led 3-1. They would add another on a single by Austin Green.

Bowie’s up and coming opponent in the Western Division Championship Series is still undecided as Altoona blew a two-run eighth inning lead in Binghamton in a 3-2 loss. Akron stayed alive with a 3-1 win in Harrisburg. Richmond was eliminated with a 2-0 loss to Reading. Altoona’s magic number is one with two games to play.

The Baysox will look for their first win in the series Sunday afternoon, September 6th at 1:35 p.m. with RHP David Hess making his second Eastern League start in Erie.

Coverage will begin at 20-minutes prior to first pitch on baysox.com, 1430wnav.com and via the Tune-In Radio App by searching Bowie Baysox.

The Baysox are headed to the Eastern League Playoffs in search of a first ever league title. Bowie’s first home playoff game will be Game Three of the Western Division Championship Series on Friday, September 11th at 7:05 pm at Prince George’s Stadium. Get tickets today online at baysox.com.
