Bello Machre elects new Board members

bellomachreBello Machre is pleased to announce the election of its newest Board Members, D’Ana Johnson and Honora (Norie) Sutor effective July 13, 2015. 

Dr. Robert Ireland, President and CEO, commented, “We are so very fortunate to have such strong compassionate leaders as a part of the Bello Machre family.  D’Ana and Norie will be tremendous assets to our Board of Directors as we continue to expand and grow our organization providing a lifetime of loving care to people with developmental disabilities.”

D’Ana’s civic mindedness and business perspective will further strengthen the board leadership and Bello Machre’s commitment of enriching the lives of people with developmental disabilities.  D’Ana comments, “The tenderness and caring that Bello Machre instills in each of us who work toward the goal of providing care and housing to our most vulnerable is more than hype.  It is the essence of humanity and reminds us that I am my brother’s keeper.” 

D’Ana is a Parter of the law firm Bonner, Kiernan, Trebach, and Crociata in the Washington D.C. office as well as a newly opened office in Annapolis, Maryland.  D’Ana has nearly 35 years of experience litigating complex cases and was recognized as a Top Rated Lawyer in Washington, D.C. by Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell.  She has also taught numerous seminars in trial techniques and tactics and was a faculty member of the International Association Defense Counsel Trial Academy.  There she wrote and spoke on many aspects of trial advocacy.  D’Ana is a graduate of Morgan State University and has her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.  She and her husband reside in Gambrills, Maryand.

Norie has a long history of serving the community through volunteerism.  Most recently she served on the Anne Arundel County Food Bank Board of Directors.  She has a special connection with Bello Machre as her sister, Peggy, has lived in a Bello Machre community home for over 10 years. 

Norie comments, “Bello Machre has been a blessing to my family. In that time, Bello Machre has provided Peggy with job opportunities, social activities, loving caregivers, and new friends. I am honored to be able to give back to such a great organization by serving on the board.” 

Norie Wohlgemuth Sutor is an Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. She has been practicing law for over 20 years, specializing in real estate law.  Currently, Norie represents the Department of Housing and Community Development in affordable housing and community development programs.  She also advises on complex multi-lender project finance requirements and related legal and policy matters. Norie’s community activities working with the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, Historic Londontown Foundation, City of Annapolis Board of Zoning Appeals, and the U.S. Navel Academy.  Norie is a graduate of Gettysburg College with her law degree from the University of Baltimore-School of Law.  Norie resides in Annapolis, Maryland.   

Bello Machre, founded in 1972, means Home of My Heart in Gaelic.  It is a non-profit organization in Anne Arundel Country, Maryland that provides homes and support to children, teens, adults, and seniors with developmental disabilities.  Its mission is to provide a lifetime of loving care so that they can live life to its fullest.  Many of the people served live in its 56 community homes located throughout Central Maryland.  Bello Machre also provides help and support to hundreds of children and adults in their own homes.  The Hertha and Jesse Adams Ray of Hope Program offers assistance with expenses such as specialized summer camp, physical therapy and adaptive equipment.  Trained and caring staff also provides residential respite care, during family hospitalizations, emergencies, and vacations—24-hours a day – seven days a week.  Bello Machre is there to help with whatever is needed, empowering people with developmental disabilities to live life to its fullest.
