Baysox cruise past Reading to split series

bysoxpennantBaysox batters walked nine times and eight times in the first four innings on the way to a 10-3 win over Reading Wednesday night in Game 2 of the Eastern League Championship Series. The win draws the Baysox to a series split as things move back to Bowie for Game 3 Thursday at 6:35 p.m.

The Baysox offense scored 10 runs for the second time in five playoff games. The offense managed 11 hits and were led by Garabez Rosa who had three hits and two RBI.

Baysox starter Nick Additon had another great playoff outing, throwing seven innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out two in the win. Relievers Ashur Tolliver, Jason Stoffel and Gene Escat combined to throw two scoreless innings to finish out the game.

The Baysox got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning against Reading starter Ethan Martin. Mike Yastrzemski hit a one-out triple and later scored on a Garabez Rosa single to left field to make the score 1-0.

Reading came right back to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning against Baysox starter Nick Additon. Nick Williams reached on an error and came around to score on a J.P. Crawford double and Andrew Knapp groundout to make the score 1-1.

The Baysox offense got rolling in the next three innings as the team rallied for seven runs against Martin and Reading reliever Joely Rodriguez. Glynn Davis hit a big two-out triple in the top of the third to bring home two runs and extend the Baysox lead to 5-1. 

With the Baysox lead down to 8-3 after eight innings, the Baysox offense added two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning against Reading reliever Ryan O’Sullivan to make the final score 10-3

Reading was forced to use three different pitchers before the fifth inning. Starter Martin lasted 2.1 innings and allowed five runs on four hits and five walks in the loss. Reliever Joely Rodriguez followed Martin and threw just 1.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks.
