County Executive Steve Schuh has committed to funding Crofton High School in its design and construction phase in his next budget and to restore the funding removed by the County Council.

“The MGT school facilities study demonstrates a need for Crofton High School and smaller, neighborhood high schools,” said Schuh. “I am determined to restore the funding for a Crofton High School through the Board of Education’s Capital Budget, and am committed to the priority order set forth in the Superintendent’s  proposed capital budget .  With a supportive Council and Council leadership, we can ensure that in three years parents and students from Crofton will be attending a back to school night at the new Crofton High School.”

Crofton High School would be the first incrementally new high school in Anne Arundel County since 1982 and has the support of members of the Anne Arundel County District 33 delegation.

“It is great to see that this study recognizes the need to prevent the children of Crofton from being split between two high schools,” said Senator Ed Reilly.

“This is something the community has wanted for a long time. I’m so happy all of the stars have aligned and our Superintendent, Board of Education, County Executive and hopefully County Council have finally come together,” said Delegate Tony McConkey.

“I am pleased the MGT Study supports what the people of Crofton have been fighting for,” said Delegate Sid Saab. “I will continue to support the Crofton High School project until the school opens its doors to its first students.”

“As a 1985 Arundel High School graduate who has seen the students from Crofton Middle School divided between the Arundel and South River High Schools for almost the last 30 years, it is wonderful to see the Crofton community finally on its way to having its own high school,” said Delegate Michael Malone. “The Crofton High School shall continue to have my ongoing support.”

The MGT Study also affirmed a need to split up Old Mill High School into two smaller schools.

The MGT Study was released on September 2nd.
