Leo & Cygnus is born from the original music of Daniel Alvarez, Nicole Blickenstaff and Alex Barnett, the music is given life through the work and views of the entire band. Drawing from different influences like Bon Iver, Frank Zappa, Ingrid Michaelson, and world music like Samba, Soca, and Jazz they have created an all original sound. Members include: Daniel Alvarez – vocals and rhythm guitar, Nicole Blickenstaff – vocals and keyboard, Alex Barnett – Lead guitar and backing vocals, Kelsey Price – Drums and percussion, Christopher Au – bass.

Leo & Cygnus began in early October, 2013. Originally called Daniel & The Lion (Alex Barnett), the rest of the gang joined through the need for more voices and many more sounds. The name Leo & Cygnus was created by lead guitarist and songwriter Alex Barnett. Translated from latin, it means “Lion & Swan.” In 2014 they have had a big year playing at Frozen Harbor Music Festival, Jam at the Dam, and Artscape. Their debut album, “Scorpius” is available now on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, and Bandcamp worldwide!

chasingverityChasing Verity is known for strong, soulful vocals, powerful, driving guitar, and dynamic live performances. Based in Baltimore & Annapolis, Maryland, and influenced by blues and classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix, Chasing Verity brings its own youthful, modern twist to an old school rock sound, creating music that defies easy labeling. The band has been described as classic rock, alternative rock, pop, pop punk, and even “hippie punk.” Whatever the label, they aim to put on an energetic live performance that audiences won’t soon forget and to create music that audiences will enjoy playing over and over again once the live performance has ended.

Chasing Verity was formed when founding members, Peter Terrier (guitarist), Joliana Sarro (singer), and James Bartolotta (bassist) met while taking music lessons at the same location. They began playing together in 2012, starting with cover songs, and quickly moving on to write original songs of their own. Their music lessons were soon swapped for band rehearsals in Peter’s basement, and to this day, music is heard bright and early at Peter’s house on most Sunday mornings and often several other days of the week as well.

Chasing Verity has been heard on 98 Rock’s Noise in the Basement with Matt Davis, and they have performed live at several Baltimore and Annapolis venues and festivals, including Baltimore Soundstage, Rams Head Live, the Ottobar and others in Baltimore, as well as Rams Head On Stage, the Metropolitan, Maryland Hall and several other venues in Annapolis. A highlight of Chasing Verity’s experience was participating in (and winning!) Chesapeake Arts Center’s 2014 Be the Band Competition. The band loved CAC’s theater and is so excited to be returning to help kick off CAC’s 2015 Saturday Concert Series.

Chasing Verity recorded their first EP in May, 2014, and they’ve been busy since then working on more originals. Jolie writes lyrics for the band’s songs, and Peter writes the music. They have several new songs they plan to release in the upcoming year!  Working these days with a new artists, Chasing Verity continues to create and grow musically, performing regularly as a full band and also as an acoustic duo with Jolie on vocals and Peter on guitar.

The band has also been collaborating with other musicians and artists for special projects. Jolie and Peter were especially proud to work on “One Baltimore,” a song collaboration with other concerned Baltimore-area musicians and Konexion Studio in response to the Freddie Gray tragedy and the events that followed in Baltimore.  They are hopeful that the powerful message of the song will help in the healing process and ongoing rebuilding efforts in Baltimore and other areas similarly affected.  Here song here: https://soundcloud.com/chasingverity/one-baltimore

Finally, to answer the most common question! What’s Chasing Verity mean?  “Verity” is a truth, a core belief.  It’s actually the quality or state of being true or real, a core personal belief. When they were looking for a name, the band loved the idea of seeking your own personal truth and what’s real, but they felt like actually finding and catching your own truth is easier said than done. So, they became Chasing Verity, and they’ve been Chasing Verity through writing, making and loving music ever since!
