Baysox stumble in loss to Trenton

BaysoxThe Baysox were slow to get started and Trenton took advantage with a four-run fourth inning on the way to a 6-4 win Wednesday night. The victory was just the third for Trenton in 13 games against the Baysox this season. Despite the loss, the Baysox remain in first place in the Western Division.

Trenton starter Eric Ruth continued to dominate the Baysox and was finally able to pick up his first win in three starts. In two previous starts against the Baysox, Ruth had allowed just one earned run over 12 innings, but had failed to earn a win. Wednesday, he threw six innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out six and walking two.

Trenton got on the board first with a big fourth inning against Baysox starter Nick Additon. Tony Renda hit a lead-off single to left field and stole second and third base with one out in the inning. Rob Segedin then brought Renda home with a single to center field and he scored on a Dante Bichette Jr. double to right field. Ali Castillo homered to left field to score the final two runs of the inning and give the Thunder a 4-0 lead.

Bowie got one run back in the bottom half of the inning against Trenton starter Eric Ruth. Quincy Latimore hit a one-out double to center field and scored on a two out Garabez Rosa single to right field to make the score 4-1.

The Thunder struck again in the top of the sixth inning. Segedin and Bichette singled in back-to-back at-bats to start the inning and reliever Kenn Kasparek then replaced Additon on the mound. Jose Rosario singled with one out to load the bases and two runs then scored when Juan Graterol reached on a force out. The first run scored on the groundout to shortstop and the second run scored after a throwing error by second baseman Corban Joseph to make the score 6-1.

The Baysox rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against Trenton reliever Matt Tracy. Trey Mancini hit a one-out double to right field and moved to third base on a Latimore single to left field. Both runs scored on a Mike Yastrzemski single and fielding error by center fielder Jake Cave to make the score 6-3.

Bowie added one final run in the bottom of the ninth inning as they tried to make it walk-off wins in consecutive games. Drew Dosch hit a lead-off single to right-center field and moved to second base when Corban Joseph reached on an error by right fielder Jose Rosario with one out. Chance Sisco walked to load the bases and Cesar Vargas then replaced Tracy on the mound. Mancini brought one run home on a sacrifice fly but Vargas was able to get out of the jam and preserve the 6-4 win.

Additon threw five innings and allowed six runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking one in the loss. Kasparek threw two innings and allowed two hits. Relievers Marcel Prado and Andrew Robinson combined to throw two scoreless innings to finish the game.
