BaysoxThe Baysox clinched their sixth playoff berth in the franchise’s 23-year history and first since 2012 with a comeback 7-4 win over the Altoona Curve Monday night. The Baysox rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the win after falling behind 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning.

The Baysox magic number to clinch a Western Division title drops to three with Monday’s win over Altoona. The Baysox only other division title in club history came in 2008.

Trey Mancini gave the Baysox a quick lead with a two-out solo home run to left-center field in the bottom of the first inning against Altoona starter Zack Dodson. The home run was Mancini’s 20th of the season between Frederick and Bowie.

Altoona came back to take the lead with five hits in the top of the fourth inning against starter Chris Lee. Jose Osuna reached on the first of three infield singles with one out and moved to third base on a throwing error by Lee on a pickoff attempt. Barrett Barnes then brought Osuna home with a single to right field. Singles from Eric Weiss and Sebastian Valle loaded the bases before a single by Jacob Stallings and sacrifice fly from Stetson Allie brought home two more runs to make the score 3-1.

Bowie chipped away at the lead with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Mancini drew a one-out walk and moved to third base on a Chance Sisco groundout and Altoona throwing error. Brandon Snyder singled to center field to plate Mancini and make the score 3-2.

The Baysox tied in the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Glynn Davis hit a lead-off double to left field, moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Mike Yastrzemski single to left field to tie the game 3-3.

The Curve broke the tie in the top of the eighth inning against Orioles rehabbing reliever Chaz Roe. Weiss hit a lead-off single to right field and moved to second base on a Valle sacrifice bunt. Weiss then stole third base and scored on a Stallings sacrifice fly to give Altoona the 4-3 lead.

Bowie came storming back with a wild two out rally to win the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. The inning involved two Altoona errors, four unearned runs being scored and six straight Baysox reaching base with two outs in the inning. After recording the first two outs, Dodson was replaced on the mound by reliever John Kuchno. Mancini quickly reached on a fielding error by third baseman Eric Wood and moved to second base on a Quincy Latimore infield single. Sisco then reached on a fielding error by shortstop Max Moroff to load the bases before Snyder was hit-by-a-pitch to bring home the tying run. Drew Dosch followed with a single to left-center field that scored two more runs before Davis singled to bring home the final run of the inning and give the Baysox a 7-4 win.

Lee threw five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking two in a no decision. Reliever Jon Keller threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, walking two and striking out one batter. Roe threw 1.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit in the win. Closer Andrew Triggs recorded the final three outs, striking out two for his team-leading 16th save of the season.
