Students in a pastry class work on getting the right consistency for the filling before adding it to a pastry and baking.

Two hotel/restaurant management programs offered by the Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute (HCAT) at Anne Arundel Community College have been accredited by the Accrediting Commission of American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF).

The Culinary Arts Option Associate of Applied Science degree has been identified as “Exemplary” by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF) Accrediting Commission. To qualify as an Exemplary Program, a program must be applying for renewal of ACFEF Accreditation and must have been in full compliance with ACFEF Standards during the renewal team’s last visit. The team determined that the Culinary Arts Option Associate of Applied Science degree met the required nine standards and received a grant of accreditation and the Exemplary status for seven years, from 2014-2021.

The Baking and Pastry Arts Option Associate of Applied Science degree received an initial accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF) for the maximum five-year accreditation, from 2015-2020.

HCAT’s program is taught by classically trained and industry-current instructors in state-of-the-art kitchens and training labs. Culinary students have the opportunity to participate in an Italian Culinary Internship along the Amalfi Coast of Italy, professional student clubs, competitive teams and scholarships.

In addition, its Hospitality Business Management Option of the Hotel/Restaurant Management Associate of Applied Science degree earned the maximum seven year renewal of accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA). The HCAT Institute also includes continuing professional education and noncredit courses for food and wine enthusiasts. For information, visit http://www.aacc.edu/hcat/
