“Our public safety professionals need effective tools like this new police cruiser to keep our streets safe,” said Schuh. “The plans we have laid out in this year’s budget are just the beginning of an effort to ensure we make our police department the best staffed, best equipped, and best prepared force in our entire state.”

“My office is committed to partnering with County Executive Schuh and Chief Altomare to keep our citizens safe,” said States Attorney Wes Adams.  “The investments made in this year’s budget will help us in our efforts against gangs and heroin dealers.”

The 2015 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor has enhanced suspension to ensure safe pursuits in emergency situations. The model unveiled during the event is also designed for the driver to sit higher for better visibility, allowing for more effective patrolling.

The County Executive also discussed public safety investments in this year’s budget, including:

  • Funding for 20 new public safety personnel to help address the growing gang and heroin problems in the county.
  • A new, $11 million police training academy that will give our police a training environment worthy of the dedicated officers that protect our community.
  • A $6 million central booking facility to ensure an efficient and effective public safety effort in the county.
  • A 3% mid-year compensation increase for public safety personnel.

The FY 2016 budget became effective July 1, 2015.
