Senators 9th inning homer sinks Baysox

BaysoxChris Bostick hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie and lead Harrisburg to a 5-4 win over the Baysox Friday evening. The Baysox had scored three runs in the seventh and eighth innings to rally from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game 4-4 before the game-winning home run.

The Senators got on the board first in the top of the second inning against Baysox starter Mikey O’Brien. Shaw Pleffner hit a one out double and moved to third base on a Jose Lozada infield single to second base. Pedro Severino followed with a single to right field to bring one run home and Lozada scored on an Isaac Ballou groundout to give Harrisburg a 2-0 lead. 

The Baysox got one run back in the bottom of the third inning against Harrisburg starter Matt Spann. Ozzie Martinez hit a one out single to third base, moved to second base on a passed ball and scored on a two-out single to left field from Trey Mancini to make the score 2-1.

Harrisburg added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, O’Brien walked Derrick Robinson and hit Cutter Dykstra before being replaced on the mound by Richard Rodriguez. With two outs, Rodriguez surrendered a pair of singles that allowed two runs to score and give the Senators a 4-1 lead.

Bowie rallied with two outs in the bottom half of the inning against Harrisburg reliever Nick Lee. Tucker Nathans was hit by a pitch and the next two batters struck out. Martinez drew a walk and Mike Yastrzemski then singled to center field to bring one run home. After Gilberto Mendez replaced Lee on the mound, Mancini brought another run home with an infield single to third base to make the score 4-3.

Quincy Latimore tied the game 4-4 with a solo home run to left-center field to lead-off the bottom of the eighth inning.

Chris Bostick gave the Senators the lead right back at 5-4 with a one out solo home run to left-center field in the top of the eighth inning.

O’Brien threw 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on six hits while striking out four and walking three in the no decision. Rodriguez pitched 2.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits while striking out six in the loss. 

Harrisburg reliever Bryan Harper picked up the win, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings to close out the game.

The team is home through Wednesday, June 22 for a seven game homestand against Harrisburg and the Reading Fightin Phils. Saturday is Women in Sports Night with the ladies of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League starting at 6:35 p.m. with postgame fireworks. RHP Joe Gunkel (3-1, 2.23) is scheduled to pitch against Harrisburg’s RHP Colin Bates (3-0, 3.45).
