A home believed to be unoccupied caught fire this evening in the 900 block of Bay Ridge Road in Annapolis, Upon arrival firefighters saw flames from the dwelling and called for an immediate second alarm due to the heat conditions.
Hoses were stretched across Bay Ridge Road for about an hour and police were directing traffic. This section of Bay Ridge Road is near the McDonalds and police were deflecting inbound traffic either onto Hillsmere Drive or Bay Ridge Avenue toward downtown Annapolis. Outbound traffic was initially sent through the parking lot of the Main Ingredient Cafe and then directed onto Bay Ridge Avenue towards downtown Annapolis.
Officials at the scene said that there were no injuries. There are several homes in the area and some are abandoned. There is also a homeless camp not too far from the area as well. Annapolis City Fire Department, Anne Arundel County Fire Department, and the US Naval Academy Fire Department assisted along with Anne Arundel and Annapolis police departments.
