Babe Ruth bobblehead giveaway

Babe Ruth BobbleheadThe Bowie Baysox announced  the Babe Ruth Bobblehead Giveaway at Prince George’s Stadium Sunday, July 19, as the team takes on the Harrisburg Senators at 2:05 p.m. The first of its kind bobblehead giveaway features the ‘Sultan of Swat’ wearing his 1914 Baltimore Orioles minor league uniform.

Sunday, July 19 is also Orioles Pride Day at Prince George’s Stadium and fans are encouraged to wear their Orioles gear to show their support for the Baysox parent club. For the second year in a row, the Baysox will be wearing Baltimore Orioles jerseys during the game so while the Big League club is out of town in Detroit, come support some future Orioles in Bowie.

The first 1,000 fans ages 13 will receive the bobbling version of the local legend, made in partnership with the Babe Ruth Birthplace & Museum. Stadium gates will open at 1:00 p.m. for that afternoon’s game and tickets are available by visiting www.baysox.com, calling 301-464-4865 or by visiting the Baysox ticket office at Prince George’s Stadium.

Baysox Assistant General Manager Phil Wrye helped plan this promotion. “We are very happy to have been able to partner with the Babe Ruth Birthplace & Museum for this very unique collector’s item giveaway,” Wrye said. “This is the first ever bobblehead to depict Babe Ruth playing with his earliest professional team in Baltimore in 1914 and something fans will not want to miss.”

Born in Baltimore in 1895, Ruth played his first professional baseball games for the minor league Baltimore Orioles in 1914 before having his contract sold later that year to the Boston Red Sox where he began his historic career in Major League Baseball. The Baysox bobblehead depicts the slugger wearing his gray 1914 Orioles uniform with a blue and white “B” patch on the sleeve.
