Anne Arundel Police make arrest in Glen Burnie Murder

David FordOn Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at approximately 7:21 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to the area of Whitmore Court and Shelly Road for a stabbing. Upon arrival, police located the victim who was suffering from apparent trauma. The Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the victim to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital for treatment of his life threatening injuries. At approximately 8:17 p.m., the victim was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The victim was identified as Mohamed Bashir Eltahir a 38-year-old male from the 6500 block of Charter Road in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Family members responded to the hospital and learned that Mr. Eltahir died from his injuries.

The injuries/trauma Mr. Eltahir sustained was consistent with being the victim of a homicide. On Thursday, July 9, 2015, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore Maryland will perform an autopsy to determine Mr. Eltahir’s exact cause and manner of death.

The Anne Arundel County Homicide Unit responded and assumed command of the investigation. Technicians from the Evidence Collection Unit arrived on scene and scoured the crime scene for items of possible evidentiary value. Homicide detectives interviewed several witnesses as canvasses were conducted within the surrounding neighborhood. Anne Arundel County Aviation flew over the scene in search of the possible suspect as K-9 searched the surrounding ground areas.

As the evidence was collected and witness interviews completed, a suspect was positively identified as the person responsible for the murder of Mr. Eltahir. The suspect was identified as David Leander Ford, a 58-year-old male from the 6600 block of Roberts Court in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Investigation revealed this was not a random act as the suspect and victim are known to each other. Evidence revealed the suspect and Mr. Eltahir became involved in an argument at which time the suspect stabbed Mr. Eltahir.

Detectives from the Anne Arundel County Fugitive Apprehension Team with the assistance of the Baltimore County Police Department apprehended the suspect in the 2900 block of Bero Road in Lansdowne, Maryland. The suspect, David Ford, was charged with First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, and Dangerous Weapon/Conceal.
