AACC offers in county tuition to any active duty military

aaccActive-duty military – regardless of where they live or where their duty station is – will be charged tuition at the county rate when enrolled at Anne Arundel Community College under a new policy approved by the college’s board of trustees at its June 9 meeting.

To be eligible for this special tuition rate, the student must present evidence of his/her active-duty status to the cashier prior to making the first payment of tuition and fees and when adding a class.

Although some military students have been eligible in the past for in-county tuition rates, this change is the first time the college has defined active-duty members of the United States Armed Forces as in-county residents, regardless of where they live or are stationed.

“As a military-friendly school for the past six consecutive years, AACC realizes the importance of providing support for its military students and their families. The new ‘Residency Requirements’ policy provides another opportunity for the college to expand that support,” said AACC President Dr. Dawn Lindsay.

Veterans and their spouses and dependent children also are covered in the new policy.

• Those students using veteran benefits will be classified as out-of-county, in-state residents for tuition purposes, even if they live outside the state.

• Veterans receiving the Montgomery or Post 9/11 GI Bill educational benefits and their spouses and dependent children who enroll within three years of the veteran’s discharge will be classified as in-county if they live in Anne Arundel County or out-of-county, in-state for tuition purposes, even if they live outside of Maryland.
