First Sunday to celebrate the French and the frigate Hermione

hermioneOn Sunday June 7th West and Calvert Streets in the Arts and Entertainment District of Annapolis Maryland will once again be taken over by the popular First Sunday Arts festival from 11am to 5pm. The festival is taking on a French Theme for June and is expecting to draw over 7,000 locals  to take in the arts and enjoy the family friendly festivities. The June 7th festival will be celebrating the upcoming June 16th arrival of the French ship “The Hermione” to Annapolis.

Bon appétit ! Start the Sunday morning with a French Brunch at Rams Head Tavern on West Street featuring three Chef Specials…

Eggs Hussarde: Eggs Hussarde with Marchand de vin and Hollandaise Sauce
Brie Quiche: Brie, Spinach and Sun-Dried Tomato Quiche
Grilled Zucchini Bread: Grilled Zucchini Bread with Strawberry Purée, Macerated Berries and Sweet Crème Fraîche.

After Brunch head out and explore the West Street and Whitmore Park sections of historic Annapolis with French Flags flying on the streets and shop over 100 local and regional artists and crafters including wood turnings, pottery, clothes, metal yard sculptures, jewelry, blown glass, photography, paintings and more. You might even find an early Father’s Day gift for Dad. Plus the galleries along the street will be open including The Annapolis Collection Gallery which is opening a French exhibit “All Things French”. This special exhibit features watercolors by Greg Harlin and oils by Ann Munro Wood that focus on the history of France. An opening reception will be held during the festival from 3:30 to 5pm.
Free music concerts and entertainment starts around Noon with 4 choices to pick from including Dean Rosenthal , Winship, Edward Sparks and theater by Compass Rose Theater. The second Round of music starts around 2:30 with Angela Charles (Musician) , Jess Cantley and Spice. For the kids there is story time and activities hosted by The JNP Project at noon, 2 and 4 in Whitmore Park. Plus there will be vendors doing face painting and Henna at the festival. Plus check out Chalk Artist Julie Linkins who will be creating chalk art on the sidewalks featuring a Tall Ship.

When you are ready for a break from all the fun head into 49 West Coffeehouse and Gallery to enjoy a glass of French wine or explore outdoor dining with 5 outdoor cafes along West Street and Food Trucks on Calvert Street.

The First Sunday arts Festival is always a free admission street arts festival and offers plenty of easy parking options with Whitmore Garage and Gott’s Court Garage being located right next to the festival and free parking is located about 2 blocks away and the State Parking Garage on the corner of Calvert and Bladen Street.
When the vendors start to breakdown at 5pm check out the new “After Parties”.  After Parties include Sunday Gospel Sushi at Tsunami, Music and Art Receptions at 49 West Coffeehouse and Gallery, Movies on the patio behind Renyolds Tavern and Music on the back patio of Ramshead Tavern.

First Sunday Arts festivals will continue in 2015 on July 5th, August 2nd, September 6th, October 4th and November 1. For additional details visit www.firstsundayarts.com.
