Three, two-out RBI-hits drove the Baysox to a 3-2 series opening win over New Hampshire on Tuesday night. Bowie never trailed in the nip and tuck affair.
Bowie grabbed the lead early as DH Garabez Rosa lined an RBI-single to left field to break put the Baysox up 1-0. Bowie would break a 1-all tie in the fourth inning with a two-out rally.
RF Quincy Latimore doubled on a solid line drive to the wall in left field. He would then score as 3B Jason Esposito singled sharply up the middle. New Hampsire was able to tie the ballgame in the sixth inning on an RBI-basehit by DH Ryan Schimpf.
But again the Baysox had the answer. With Latimore at third base and two down in the seventh inning, SS Sharlon Schoop broke out of a 1-for-25 slump with a double to the alley in left-center field. Latimore trotted home with the would be winning run.
After six strong innings from Terry Doyle (4-1), Marcel Prado came on and battled through a scoreless seventh inning in which he walked two batters. Then in the eighth inning the ball was turned to closer Mychal Givens. He got out of a jam with two on and one out in the eighth and then set down New Hampshire in order in the ninth to notch his 11th save.
Bowie has now won five of its last seven games.
