Baysox split double dip in New Britain

BaysoxAfter allowing more runs than they have in any game this season in the opener, three Bowie pitchers combined to shutout New Britain in the nightcap in a 1-0 Baysox win.

In a bullpen by committee game, relievers Dennis Torres, Mychal Givens and Andrew Triggs combined to get the job done. Torres worked four scoreless innings allowing just a hit. Givens worked out of a jam with consecutive strikeouts in the fifth inning in two scoreless innings of work. And Triggs battled back after hitting a batter to open the seventh to close out his third save.

The Baysox also got huge work from LF Mike Yastrzemski in the win. After consecutive two-out hits from CF Glynn Davis and SS Ozzie Martinez, Yastrzemski flied a double down the right field line to bring home Davis with the game’s lone run.

In the seventh inning, Yastrzemski’s defense was huge. With a runner at first and one down, New Britain LF Mike Tauchman lined a base hit to left field. Yastrzemski did not hesitate as he threw the ball to second base picking up a pivotal out as Tauchman looked to stretch the single to a double. SS Trevor Story grounded out following to end the game.

In the opener, Bowie took the lead after an RBI-triple from 1B trey Mancini sparked a two-run rally. Baysox starter Tim Berry had fanned four batters in first two innings but he could not get out of the third inning. New Britain sent 11 batters to the plate, rallying for six runs. They defeated Bowie 13-4.

The 13-runs in the opener were a season high allowed by the Baysox. This was the first doubleheader of the year for Bowie. Both 3B Drew Dosch and 2B Corban Joseph made their Bowie debuts in the doubleheader but each went hitless. The Baysox are now tied with Richmond for second place in the Eastern League’s West Division.
