Washington Symphonic Brass to entertain on Mother’s Day with rock and roll

NEW_WSB_Mar2015Annapolis gets a fun addition to its Mothers Day celebration this year. For Moms who love flowers, candy and a card but might also want that something extra special, how about a live music experience for the whole family?

Annapolis’s own Washington Symphonic Brass has just the event for mothers, fathers and especially kids who love music on Sunday, May 10, at 3 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church in downtown Annapolis.

“From Renaissance to Rock and Roll” is a celebration of brass instruments that will have mom and the kids dancing in the aisles of historic St. Anne’s church to one familiar hit song after another. Brass players have been rock stars since the days of the Renaissance and have been on hand for some of the biggest musical moments in history. For instance, a concert of G.F. Handel’s famous “Music for Royal Fireworks” that almost literally brought the house down when the stage caught fire. They were among the first musicians to figure out that Beethoven’s broken metronome made many of his symphonies unplayable. The WSB will share those stories and lots more on Mothers Day afternoon while sharing music that’s fun for everyone.

Included with each ticket is a 2 p.m. pre-concert gathering to meet the musicians and find out how their instruments work, their history and how they evolved over time.  It’s the perfect way for young musicians to get up close and personal with these amazing instruments and the people who play them.

For this event adult tickets are just $25 (including all fees) and kids attend free, a perfect outing for the whole family.   They are on sale now at www.liveartsmaryland.org. For more information, visit the website or call 410-263-1906.

The Washington Symphonic Brass is comprised of some of the finest professional musicians in the Washington/Baltimore area. While members are in constant demand for orchestral, solo, and chamber music performances, they have assembled to play some of the great literature written for large brass ensemble. Individually, the members of WSB have performed with many of the nation’s best orchestras, such as The National Symphony, The Baltimore Symphony, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Returning to town specifically for this performance is horn player, Marty Hackleman, former Principal Horn for the National Symphony Orchestra and alum of Canadian Brass and Empire Brass.

The Washington Symphonic Brass is presented in Annapolis by Live Arts Maryland, J. Ernest Green, Music Director. “From Renaissance to Rock & Roll” is co-presented by Live Arts Maryland and St. Anne’s Church, The Rev. Dr. Amy Richter, Rector.
