McDade sac fly in 10th drives home win for Baysox

BaysoxThe Baysox extended their season-long winning streak to four games with a ten-inning 3-2 win in the series opener in Akron Thursday night. RF Mike Yastrzemski stole third base with one out and scored on 1B Mike McDade’s sacrifice fly for the winning run in the top of the tenth inning.

Bowie got a strong start from RHP Branden Kline. He worked six innings allowing two runs while striking out six batters. He held Akron scoreless in the first four frames.

The Baysox then went to work in the fifth inning. 2B Derrik Gibson singled to left-center with one down and then reached second base on a walk to Yastrzemski. The runners were at second and third bases with two down when DH Sean Halton lined a 2-RBI single to put the Baysox up 2-0.

Akron battled back loading the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning for SS Erik Gonzalez, who cashed in, with a two-RBI single to tie the game.

But the Baysox pen was up to the task. RHP Ben Rowan worked a perfect seventh inning. RHP Mychal Givens (2-0) battled through two scoreless frames to send the game to extras. And after Bowie brought home the lead run, RHP Kenn Kasparek set the top of the Akron order down in succession with three straight strikeouts to wrap up his second save of the year.

Prior to the game, Garabez Rosa was transferred from Triple-A Norfolk. Rosa started at shortstop and went 0-for-5 in his 2015 Bowie debut. OF Michael Burgess went on the disabled list with a left calf strain to make room on the 25-man roster.
