Leukemia Cup Regatta plans well underway

lukCalling all Sailors and Annapolis Community Members! You are invited to participate in the Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta, a signature event of the Maryland Chapter Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Leukemia Cup first began in Annapolis 23 years ago and has since been duplicated in 46 sailing and boating communities all over the country. In 2014, over 10,000 sailors participated!

A joint effort of the EYC and AYC, the Annapolis Leukemia Cup is designed to raise funds for research to cure blood related cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. The On the Water Regatta is on May 30th, 2015 and offers racing and cruising at its best for a variety of classes of boats — Multihulls, Cal 25, Alerion, Harbor 20, J/22, J/24, J/70, J/30, J/35, J/105 and PHRF (and is open other classes). By forming fundraising TEAMS in the “Off the Water” fundraising race, sailors have an opportunity to help fund research for blood cancer cures through friendly competition.

To date the following fundraising “TEAMS” are:

  • TEAM Harbor 20
  • TEAM Rock Creek
  • TEAM Adagio
  • TEAM SSA
  • TEAM Day Dream
  • TEAM J/70
  • TEAM Adams-Kishbaugh
  • TEAM EYC
  • TEAM AYC
  • TEAM Top Cat
  • TEAM Mackenzie (Annapolis Leukemia Cup honored skipper)
  • TEAM Chesapeake Boating Club and J/World

Updates on the “Off the Water” race, including stories from honored heroes and leader boards will be posted to www.leukemiacupmd.org and on the Facebook page: Leukemia Cup Regatta – Annapolis, MD.

Funds raised by the Annapolis Leukemia Cup Regatta will benefit Maryland patients and will be used for research, patient aid and education and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. The Leukemia Cup Regattas have raised over $50 million dollars since its inception in Annapolis in 1993!

Contact your crews, friends, neighbors and club members today to form a fundraising TEAM, and register for these fun and important events. If your class, club or community is not represented on the list above, you’ll be missing out on a thrilling and enjoyable event!

The Leukemia Cup weekend is kicked off by the Summer Gala and Auction, themed “Seersucker & Linen” at AYC on Friday May 29th from 6:30-9:30 pm. Tickets are $95 must be purchased in advance. The Regatta begins off the shores of EYC at 10 am on Saturday May 30th.
