Jonathan Shay, MD, PhD, acclaimed author of Achilles in Vietnam will deliver the 2015 Kristensen Memorial Lecture entitled, Homer on Military Leadership, on April 15th 2015 at 8pm in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium at St. John’s College, Annapolis, Maryland. It is free and open to the public.
Dr. Shay is a forceful and passionate advocate for the proper treatment of injured combat veterans. An opponent of the reductive term Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), he prefers to describe it as, “an injury, not an illness, malady, disease, sickness, or disorder”. He has introduced the concept of “moral injury” and has developed strategies to treat its effects.
The lecture occurs each year in April and is scheduled for the Wednesday before the Annual St. John’s vs Navy Croquet Match.
