Bundy, Hobgood set tone for Baysox win

BaysoxDylan Bundy set the tone and the Baysox pitching staff continued its outstanding start as Bowie upended Harrisburg 2-1 in the series opener on Monday Night.

Bundy worked three innings, allowing no hits while striking out one batter. He threw 34 pitches, with 24 being strikes.

Matt Hobgood then took the torch and was sharp. The Orioles former first rounder worked three shutout innings of his own. Hobgood has bow had two consecutive scoreless outings to open his Eastern league career, amassing 5 and 1/3rd scoreless frames.

The Baysox took the lead in the fifth inning. 2B Derrik Gibson singled and then C Chris O’Brien homered solidly over the right field wall. In his second game in the Orioles organization, the drive by O’Brien gave the Baysox a 2-0 lead.

Bowie was able to hold on for a third consecutive one-run win. Ashur Tolliver allowed a home run to Kevin Keyes, his first batter faced, but settled down following. He worked two innings. Reliever Kenn Kasparek finished the game working the ninth inning for his first organizational save.

The Baysox will send LHP Tim Berry to the hill Tuesday, April 14th at 6:30 p.m. in game two of the series in Harrisburg. Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on 1430wnav.com and the Tune-In Radio App with the Trunnell Law Pre-Game Show.
