Annapolis Beer Week a resounding success

Annapolis Beer Week has come to a close. But not before being deemed a resounding success by thousands of beer enthusiasts, runners, bikers, wing enthusiasts and people from all over looking for some fun times!

The week opened with a 5K run (the word “run” is very loosely defined) along with a bike race at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds. Sunday saw a mini music festival at Stan and Joe’s Saloon on West Street and a special beer sailing on the Schooner Woodwind.

Throughout the week you never had to go far to get your fix of beer–or fun. Fado, McGarvey’s, a special beer dinner at Blackwall Hitch, nightly dessert-beer pairings at Rams Head Tavern–the list goes on!

Despite the chills of Friday night, nearly 800 people headed over to Park Place for Pints for Paws which was a fundraiser for the Anne Arundel County SPCA. The event featured the homebrewers in the area and also a few “graduates” of the home brewing movement that now operate their own breweries!

The week wrapped up with a series of events at the National Guard Armory.

The 2nd Annual Wing Festival was a huge hit–so huge that people were turned away at the door because the event sold out earlier in the week. Let this be a lesson to beer week procrastinators for 2016! Regardless, the ones that got in were treated to the best wings in the area along with plenty of wonderful beer selections to quench their thirst.

The final event, also at the armory was the 4th Annual Drafts & Laughs. This year featured several wounded warriors who have returned from battle and harnessed their humor and put it out on stage for you! The event was incredibly well attended and folks left with stomach pains from laughing so hard and full stomachs from the special beers that were highlighted throughout the week.

The special thing about Annapolis Beer Week is that each event benefits a local non-profit so while you are having a good time, you are also doing good for the community. A final tally of funds raised and total attendees is still being calculated, but rest assured that the organizers are preparing for 2016 with some new and exciting things. But first, they are starting to plan September’s Maryland Seafood Festival.
