AACC culinary students and faculty bring home the cake

Three Anne Arundel Community College students and a faculty advisor received recognition at the National Capital Cake Show recently. Among the winners was Martha Walton of Gibson Island, who won second place in the intermediate competition for her tiered, garden-themed cake. The National Capital Cake Show recognized three students in Anne Arundel Community College’s Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute Chefs Club and the club’s advisor for their entries in the annual competition.

Students Martha Walton of Gibson Island and Heather Tompkins of Severn won second place, Walton for her tiered garden-themed cake in the intermediate competition, and Tompkins for her pastillage “pea-pod” showpiece in the non-professional showpiece category. Sandra Wade of Bowie, in her first competition, was recognized for her peacock cake. Chef Louise Nielsen, CWPC, CHE, the club’s advisor, won first place in the professional division for her “Floral Fantasy” cake and second place in the Amoretti Taste Challenge.
