Frances Townley Chase’s 1815 Federal Era Tea Party at Hammond-Harwood House

Tea Equipage 2Join the Hammond-Harwood House Museum for a pre-Mothers Day tea. In the year 1815 Americans were forming their own identity,  carving out new traditions including drinking new teas. Tea was an important status symbol during the Federal Era. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the museum, learn about the Chase-Loockerman family who lived here in the Federal Era, and have a traditional high tea in the garden.

Guests are encouraged to bring a copy of their favorite Jane Austen novel as there will be a discussion during tea regarding Ms. Austen’s popular literature written during this time period. Sweets are provided by Ms. Nancy’s Fancy Bakery in Annapolis. Tea is generously provided by Capital Teas.

Sunday May 3, 2 pm to 4 pm. $40 per person, $35 for members.
