This exhibition presents modernist works from the Baker Museum’s largest and most significant single collection, amassed by the late Ahmet Ertegün (St. John’s College, A44), the Turkish American musician and businessman best known as the founder and president of Atlantic Records.

Hop to Terrapin Adventures for a unique Egg Hunt. Children will decorate their own egg cartons, pet live bunnies, hunt for candy-filled eggs, dress up in climbing gear and soar to new heights for an hour on the Terrapin Explorer Course designed for children ages 5-9. The Explorer Ropes Course includes two zip lines, two levels, 20 challenging elements and a 20-foot-high rock wall.

Dr. R.J. Rockefeller’s 2:30 p.m. presentation, “Remembering John Hanson’s 300th Birthday,” will be the focal point of this month’s Treaty of Paris Center’s offering.  Hanson was the first president of congress elected to a one-year term under the ratified Articles of Confederation. The Treaty of Paris interpretive center focuses on the period 1783 to 1787, the years between the end of the Revolutionary War and the start of the Constitutional Convention. It includes reenactments, lectures, films, exhibits, walking tours, and more.

The “Johnnies” and the “Mids” vie for the coveted Annapolis Cup during this annual rite of spring. The croquet match brings together two starkly different institutions for an event Sports Illustrated claims has “no parallel in intercollegiate sports.” Attendees dress “Great Gatsby”-style while enjoying a lavish lawn party that includes serenades by the St. John’s Freshman Chorus and swing music provided by the Naval Academy’s Trident Brass Band. The “Johnnies” play in different “uniforms” each year – ranging from camouflage khakis, to U.S. Naval Academy imitation Crackerjack, to Vikings’ attire, to bare feet. The “Mids” follow the United States Croquet Association dress code.

Chesapeake anglers excited about the start of the rockfish season can enjoy their favorite sport and support three great causes by entering the Annual Boatyard Bar & Grill Opening Day “Catch & Release” Rockfish Tournament. Participating fishermen compete for great prizes and give back to the Bay and their community – with events benefitting the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Coastal Conservation Association Maryland, and the Annapolis Police Department’s Youth Fishing Camp. Opening Day is the first “real” day of spring for anglers. No fish are brought in to be measured. The winners are determined from the digital photos of the fish taken next to the Boatyard Measuring Device – a 48”-long “yardstick.”

More than 60 unique brands of beer will be available – including some beers offered exclusively during Beer Week. New this year, a Bicycle 2 Beer event will be held at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville, benefitting Bike Like a Girl, an all-female team that is competing in Race Across America. Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on April 18, cyclists will meet at the fairgrounds, complete their ride and then arrive back at the fairgrounds for the Beer Festival. Grab your favorite dockside seat in America’s Sailing Capital to watch some 130 crews compete in midweek races that involve sailing around several marks in the Bay before heading back to Spa Creek for a finish in front of the Annapolis Yacht Club.
