J. Ernest Green and the Annapolis Chorale Chamber Chorus perform JS Bach’s St. John Passion on March 20 (7:30 pm) and 21 (8 pm) at St. Annes Church.   The St. John Passion is one of the most riveting and influential works in all of Western music.   Mr. Green and company will make the most of the historic churchs space and acoustics for these performances.

Singing the role of the Evangelist (narrator) is David Merrill who recently performed the role of Motel in Fiddler on the Roof. Joining him in the role of Pontius Pilate is Matthew Anchel. Ethan Herschenfeld sings the role of Jesus. Soloists for the arias are soprano Jessica Satava, mezzo-soprano Catrin Davies and tenor Frederic Rey.

Well known for his dynamic and engaging talks about music, Artistic Director J. Ernest Green will give the audience two different ways to experience this great music. For Fridays performance he will present each scene and section of music in an interactive way, allowing both the audience and performers a chance to see and feel the impact this music and story had on Bach’s own congregation. Saturdays performance will be a more traditional experience with a short pre-concert talk in the church at 7:15 p.m.

Live Arts Maryland offers free tickets for all students a half-hour before concerts. Students 18 and over must present a valid ID. Adult tickets for both performances are $37/adults, $12/pre-sold students and are on sale now at the Maryland Hall Box Office at 410-280-5640.  For more information, visit www.liveartsmaryland.org.
