Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake to organize Day of Advocacy for mentoring in Maryland

bigbrothersbigsistersKnown as the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the state of Maryland, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake, is leading the charge in organizing a mentoring day of advocacy in Annapolis. Mentoring Day in Annapolis, will take place on Thursday, March 12 at the House Office Building in Downtown Annapolis.

An invitation has been extended to community mentoring champions and local mentoring organizations to participate in a discussion introducing state legislators and other government officials to the state’s exemplary youth mentoring movement.  

After being acknowledged on the General Assembly Floor at 10 a.m., Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake will host lunch in House Room 180 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lead discussions on the state of youth mentoring in Maryland and how government leaders can help to increase the impact.

Discussion leaders will include; members of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake staff, participants in the organization’s programs and other community mentoring champions.

“There are currently more than 900 children on our waitlist to be matched with a caring adult mentor,” said Terry Hickey, President  & CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake. “Addressing this need is critical as mentoring is linked to improved academic, social and economic prospects for our youth; outcomes that ultimately strengthen our entire community.”
