Bike to Beer event added to Annapolis Beer Week

BLAGAnnapolis Beer Week announced the first Annapolis Bicycle 2 Beer event will be held at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville, MD  on April 18, 2015 in conjunction with the third annual Beer Run.    Proceeds from the event will benefit the Bike Like A Girl team (www.bikelikeagirl.org ) of 8 area cyclists who will compete in the Race Across America (www.raceacrossamerica.org) in June.

The event will offer 14 mile and 30 mile scenic bike rides around the Crownsville / Davidsonville] area with members of Bike Like A Girl.     Cyclists will meet at the fairgrounds starting at 9:00AM  in the morning, complete their ride and then have entry to the Beer Run festival which includes live entertainment, food, a 5k run, a shorter fun run and of course more than 40 varieties of beer.

Bike Like A Girl, the second 8-woman team in Race Across America history, has a mission of raising money and awareness in support of empowering girls and women through cycling.  The world-recognized race begins on June 20, 2015 in Oceanside, CA and finishes at City Dock, Annapolis, MD.  The team’s goal is to break the 8 woman team record and finish the 3,020 mile race on June 27 while also raising money for three non-profit organizations.    The World Bicycle Relief Fund provides bicycles as a mode of transportation for people in African countries to take crops to market or for children traveling to school.  The Women’s Cycling Association is an organization designed to bring gender equity into the male dominated sport in multiple ways including developing motivational cycling camps for girls ages 12-15.  Bicycle Advocates of Annapolis Anne Arundel County (“BikeAAA”) promotes safe cycling for transportation and recreation throughout Anne Arundel County.

The ride is open to cyclists of all ages, but the festival is open only to adults 21 and over.   For more information about the ride, festival, registration and sponsorship opportunities, go to www.annapolisbeerwk.com .
