Full Tilt Brewing, a Baltimore-based brewing company known for its Maryland-themed beer, and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, a nonprofit organization that funds projects to improve local waters and the Chesapeake Bay, just announced their new partnership with the release of The Bay IPA beer. Full Tilt Brewing has made a name for itself with its creative beer offerings, including Fleet Street Raspberry Wheat and Berger Cookie Chocolate Stout. The newest beer from owners Nick Fertig and Dan Baumiller attracts attention for more than just creativity: a portion of proceeds from sales of The Bay IPA will be donated to support restoration efforts through the Chesapeake Bay Trust.
“We were already in the process of creating The Bay IPA when we were inspired by the design of Maryland’s Treasure the Chesapeake license plates,” said Nick Fertig, co-owner of Full Tilt Brewing. “We thought the Bay images would look great on the label, and after we learned that the plates benefit a local, nonprofit organization working to restore the Chesapeake Bay, we wanted this beer to contribute to that effort.”
On March 21, beer enthusiasts are invited to taste test The Bay IPA at a formal release party aboard the Spirit of Baltimore departing from Baltimore Harbor. Tickets are available on the Spirit of Baltimore’s website at www.spiritcruises.com. The Bay IPA is currently available in limited release at stores throughout the greater Baltimore area, including Perfect Pour in Elkridge, Whitey’s Liquors in Linthicum, and Loading Dock in Canton with more to be added shortly. The taste of The Bay IPA has been described as a “session beer featuring Falconer’s Flight hops, with a crisp mouth-feel and citrus hop presence.”
“We are pleased to be working with a Maryland-based business to help raise awareness for the Treasure the Chesapeake license plate while we work to restore our beautiful Chesapeake Bay,” said Molly Alton Mullins, director of communications for the Chesapeake Bay Trust. “This partnership is a wonderful opportunity to not only support local businesses, but to promote a great product that raises money for a great cause that matters to so many of us.”
Since 1985, the Chesapeake Bay Trust has awarded more than $70 million in grants to improve the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers through environmental education, community outreach, and watershed restoration. For eleven years, the Trust has received a ‘Four Star Rating” from Charity Navigator, placing the organization in the top 1 percent of charities nationwide. Ninety cents of every dollar the Trust receives is directed to programs and projects that benefit the environment.
