Lace up your tennis shoes and prepare to learn some history on-the-go through “Tricorns and Tennis Shoes,” a free tour by Annapolis Tours℠ by Watermark®. Offered to the public for the first time, the complimentary tour is a part of the Maryland Day celebration on Saturday, March 21. A Colonial period dressed tour guide – in tennis shoes – will lead guests on a fun and informative romp through town. It’s not a race; just brisk! Annapolis Tours by Watermark is proud to offer the tour free to the public in celebration of Maryland’s heritage during Four Rivers Heritage Area’s 8th Annual Maryland Day weekend.

Fresh air, fun, history and exercise come together for this 2-hour tour! The pace of the tour will be set by the participants and range from a brisk walk to a relaxed run. Heather Skipper, Director of Land Operations at Watermark says, “We developed this new tour for active groups looking for a way to get in some exercise while enjoying Annapolis’ historic charm. Debuting the tour for a special weekend like Four Rivers’ Maryland Day seems the perfect fit for something so unique.” Watermark is a member of the Four Rivers Heritage Area.

Dart through the city to see the homes of each of our Maryland Signers of the Declaration of Independence, visit Colonial era merchant homes and other historic sites that symbolize Maryland’s pre-Revolutionary War spirit of creativity, individuality, and respect for order, all of which were significant in our Constitution once we won our independence.  The tour takes place Saturday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m. The tour will begin at Susan Campbell Park at City Dock immediately following the official flag raising ceremony.

Some of the stops included are:

  • Jonas Green House
  • Charles Carroll House
  • St. Mary’s meditation garden
  • Waterfront and Kunta Kinte sculpture
  • Brice House
  • Paca House
  • Samuel Chase House
  • St. John’s Campus and the Liberty Tree
  • State House grounds
  • Thurgood Marshall memorial

Reservations are not required. Guests should meet at Susan Campbell Park for the tour and wear comfortable shoes. For more information about Annapolis Tours by Watermark, visit annapolistours.com. “Tricorns and Tennis Shoes” is also available for booking by private groups.
