Odenton home damaged in early morning fire

FD_BannerJust before 4:00 a.m. today, firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of Monterey Avenue for a report of a dwelling fire. Units arrived on the scene to find heavy fire from the rear of a single family dwelling. The fire was brought under control by 30 firefighters in about an hour.

Members of the Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit have determined that the cause of the fire is accidental and related to the improper disposal of smoking materials.

Damage is estimated at approximately $275,000. The Red Cross has assisted with relocating four adults and one child.

One member of the household sustained second degree burns to her foot and transported herself to the hospital prior to the arrival of firefighters.
