Severna Park High students advance green initiative for school

geenleafMaryland Green School, Severna Park High School’s Leadership Institute, is continuing its history of environmental excellence and advocacy through the efforts of two seniors, Dan Craig and Dylan Lenart. The two, along with  their leadership team of 3 underclassmen created “Respect It Don’t Neglect It.”  The project  focuses on fostering a sustainable future in our local community. They organized and implemented an after-school program by the same name which would encourage and teach environmental habits to Glendale Elementary’s Fourth Graders. They met for three days in October and conversed on a variety of environmental issues.

The group also walked along the B & A Trail and picked up trash on the trail and throughout nearby neighborhoods.

As a Leadership II student, Dan Craig participated in Emma Slattery’s project “Reduce, Reteach, Reestablish” which ran in the 2014 school year. As president of the Green Club he sought it as his responsibility to do this enhance the project. After recruiting three Leadership 1 students, they began creating lessons which would focus on sustainable practices, pollution, and environmentalism. The result was a class of highly enthused and knowledgeable young people!
