Grain Surfboards coming to Annapolis and Chesapeake Light Craft

grain_logoThe soulful crew at Grain Surfboards will take their show on the road this spring with the “Right Coast Road Trip: Home Schooling the Atlantic Seaboard,” a series of six wooden board-building classes open to the public. The tour is made possible thanks to support from the forward thinking creators and innovators at Vissla.

2015 marks 10 years since Grain founder, Mike LaVecchia, a former snowboard industry figure and boat builder, built his first wooden surfboard in a basement in York, Maine. Since that time, Grain Surfboards have become a hub of the alternative surfboard material community and people from all over the world have come to the Grain factory to build their own cedar surf craft. Surfers of all abilities are drawn to this charming New England farm to feel the satisfaction of putting their hands to tools and crafting a piece of art that they can ride.

Grain has brought their board building classes to the West Coast for several years. This will be their first series of mobile workshops on the Atlantic coast. “It’s only right. After a couple of years of perfecting our road show out West, we’re finally bringing the traveling workshops back home to the East Coast.

Besides working at six really cool venues, we’ll be stopping along the way to do one-day hand-plane workshops and beach demos to spawn other extracurricular tomfoolery,” says LaVecchia.

This will be a special tour because each venue represents regional East Coast surf culture and heritage centers and highlights relationships that Grain has formed with it’s community from New Jersey to Florida.

Grain Right Coast Road Trip Class Dates:

Chesapeake Light Craft, Annapolis, Maryland: March 19-22

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Milton, Delaware, April 30-May 3

Tuckerton Seaport, Tuckerton, New Jersey, May 9- May 12

Vissla creators and innovators will look to join up for board building classes, handplane workshops and surf sessions throughout the tour. Spots are limited.
