Fawcetts: No Sale. Budge and Arnett withdraw sale.

Aldermen Budge and Arnett pulled their resolution for the city to buy the Fawcetts property along Compromise Street tonight at the council meeting.

In a statement, Budge said:

As we explained at the outset of R-32-14, the key element of a real estate transaction is that there be a willing buyer and a willing seller. After consultations with colleagues on the the Council, Alderman Arnett and I have concluded that the City of Annapolis is not a willing buyer of this property, at this price, at this time. Accordingly, we hereby withdraw R-32-14 from consideration.

He continued to explain how the deal would have been very good for the City and thanked the staff who worked on the resolution as well as the people who supported and opposed it.

In the end, the resolution likely did not have enough votes to pass.
