City prepares for Annapolis Irish Week

Annapolis St. Patrick's Day Parade 2014

Several years ago, local resident John O’Leary wondered why Annapolis never had a parade for St. Patrick’s Day. As it turned out, the City used to have one, but that tradition had somehow died.  O’Leary brought it back to life in 2013 with a vengeance the week before the Irish holiday.

“The idea was to bring some business into the City during what is typically a quiet period,” said O’Leary.  “Annapolis Restaurant Week is just ending, and St. Patrick’s Day can usually stand on it’s own.” In 2014, the parade and the crowds grew and it became obvious that this was now a signature event and a tradition for Annapolis.

This year, O’Leary is kicking things up a notch by expanding the parade into a full blown Irish Week.  The final details are being worked out, but the week will kick off with a Hooley (Irish for big party) at the Loews Annapolis Hotel on March 7th, followed by the parade on the 8th. There will be Irish themed events throughout the week all leading up to the big day–March 17th!

Tentatively scheduled events will include:

  • Sunday, March 1st – St. Baldrick’s event at O’Loughlins in Arnold
  • Saturday, March 7th –  1pm Pub Crawl  in Annapolis
  • Saturday, March 7th –  Hooley  at the Loews Annapolis Hotel  with the Shamrogues (Tix $50)
