Schuh continues to assemble administration with more appointments

County Executive-elect Steve Schuh today announced his intention to reappoint Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Director Rick Anthony and Grants Administrator and Hispanic and Latino Community Liaison Maria Casasco.

“Rick and Maria are dedicated public servants who’ve worked to ensure that our citizens live in the best county in Maryland,” said Schuh. “I’m happy they’ve both agreed to continue their work and make our county even stronger.”

Schuh also announced the appointment of former Anne Arundel County official Robert Leib as Special Assistant to the County Executive for Military and Veterans Affairs.

“Bob has the experience and the expertise needed to ensure our county is effectively serving our military and veteran populations,” said Schuh. “I’m grateful Bob has agreed to serve his fellow citizens and return to county government.”

Rick Anthony has served as Recreation and Parks Department Director since 2010, and has worked in various capacities in Anne Arundel County government for 16 years.

Anthony will continue to oversee the management of all community and regional county parks, two golf courses, over 100 recreation programs, agricultural land preservation projects, and 87 miles of county trails. As Director, Anthony has worked to improve and increase access to waterways for recreation.

Maria Casasco has served as Grants Administrator and Hispanic and Latino Community Liaison to County Executive since 2007. In her role, she oversees and administers county grants, as well as acting as the County Executive’s representative to the Hispanic and Latino communities. Prior to her current position, Casasco served as Addictions Prevention Coordinator and Project Director of the Hispanic Initiative for Behavioral Health for Anne Arundel County.

Casasco has received numerous awards for her work, including the 1st Community Engagement Summit Award from Anne Arundel County Public Schools in 2009, Anne Arundel Community College’s President’s Community Service Award in 2000, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award from the City of Annapolis Human Relations Commission in 1997.

Casasco is a graduate of John F. Kennedy University in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and holds a Certification in Pharmacology of alcoholism and drug abuse.

Robert Leib had served the county as the Special Assistant to the County Executive for BRAC from 2006 until his retirement in 2013. In that capacity, Leib was responsible for the leadership, preparation, and positioning of Anne Arundel County and the Fort George G. Meade Region for the implementation of 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations. In his retitled position, he will advise the County Executive on military and veterans matters, as well act as a county liaison to Fort George G. Meade.

Leib is a retired commander in United States Navy, and began his career in county government in facilities management and coordination for Anne Arundel Community College. He later served as the Director of Business and Government Services for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.  He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy.

County Executive-elect Steve Schuh was elected Anne Arundel County Executive on Tuesday, November 4, and will be sworn into office on December 1.
