Haunted Spooks Harold Lloyd Lobby PosterMaryland Hall will showcase its newly-renovated theatre, including the first performance using the new orchestra pit, with the film and orchestra performance, “Spooky Silents:  A Silent Film Halloween” with the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra (PRSO) on Saturday, November 1 at 7:30 pm.  The PRSO will perform the original musical underscores of these classic films as they play on screen — Buster Keaton’s “The Haunted House,” Harold Lloyd’s “Haunted Spooks” and Charlie Chaplin’s “One A.M.” Tickets range from $13 – $21, plus ticket fees.

The PRSO prides itself in their authentic performances of silent films. Hear and see the films as they were originally presented at their debut—with the films showing onscreen while the 12-piece PRSO, in the orchestra pit, plays the score—a unique experience for film buffs and music lovers.  The Orchestra will use the original musical scores from each of the films and will play many Ragtime-era musical interludes throughout the evening.

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is quickly becoming one of the leading ragtime ensembles in the United States. Formed by Arnold, (MD) native Andrew Greene at the University of Maryland in early 2010, PRSO plays ragtime, theatre and dance music using Mr. Greene’s collection of over 2,000 original orchestral arrangements from the ‘Ragtime’ era.

Greene is the curator of the Arthur C. Ziegler, E.J. McBride, Louis H. Burns, Katherine Lingham and Palm Leaf Ragtime Orchestra collections.  Along with his own personal collection of orchestrated ragtime, jazz, piano solos, and records, the collection totals over 7,000 selections of music from 1862 to 1950, including ragtime, theatre selections, dance music and silent film scores. In addition to his work as director and conductor of the PRSO, Greene maintains an active career as pianist and musicologist.

Maryland Hall is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of Maryland and the National Endowment for the Arts, and a grant from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. Additional support comes from sponsors including: The Helena Foundation, AT&T, Inovalon, Inc., Comcast, Wells Fargo, Verizon, Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits, Severn Savings Bank, Loews Annapolis Hotel, M&T Bank, Sandy Spring Bank and Towne Transport.
