Mayor Pantelides has a gunfire problem on his hands

UPDATE:  The criticism about a lack of response and deletion of comments may be because some of the comments were left on the Mayor’s page for his campaign and not the page established by the Mayor for the City.

The residents of Eastport are fired up about the increase in gunfire in their neighborhoods. Citing repeated police reports involving armed robberies, citizens are asking the Mayor for help; but not getting too many answers.

Last week, Mayor Pantelides asked residents on his Facebook page what his administration could do to make Annapolis a better place. And residents let him have it.  But the Mayor remained relatively silent. The majority of the comments on his post were about the violence, and the Mayor’s answer was “The Annapolis Police Department is working in the community to address this issue. Crime will not be tolerated in our city.”  That was it as far as the violence comments. However, he did thank one other resident for their opinion on Crystal Springs and thanked another one complimenting his photograph.

Seven years ago, Eastport residents got fired up over the violence in Eastport. Their actions, while deemed to be rhetorical bombthrowing by former Mayor Ellen Moyer, did result in the ouster of former Police Chief Joseph Johnson who is now head of security for the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (HACA) where most of the crime issues seem to be centered.

The new Mayor does not have a reputation for answering questions from constituents (or the media)  and prefers to address the issues in ten-minute appointments once per month. In fact, many have taken issue with the deletion of their comments on his Facebook page.

What do you think? Do you think the Pantelides administration is doing enough to control crime in Annapolis? (Poll is a little wonky, if you do not see pick buttons, click your answer and then “VOTE”)
